The current market leader, JUUL spearheaded the pod vape craze, but now there are a handful of innovative and more user-friendly alternatives, including the SMOKE FIT – an open pod vape system which is refillable.
That means you can fill the e-liquid pod with your preferred e-juice or nicotine salts e-liquid.
This review will cover the SMOK FIT’s design, features, upsides and downsides.
Quick Overview of the SMOK FIT Pod Vape Kit
The SMOK FIT In a Nutshell
The SMOK FIT Ultra Portable Vape Starter Kit is the most economical open-system vape pod pen. It’s lightweight and uncomplicated.
The biggest advantage over other vape pod devices is that you get 2 refillable pods in your starter kit.
As mentioned, the FIT is quite inexpensive compared to other vape pens. That said, don’t expect a high-end (dare I say, “quality”) piece of hardware. Make sure you get a good one by buying from an authorized on-line dealer such as Vaporfi or DirectVapor.
When the SMOK FIT works, it is a fantastic vape.
SMOK FIT Packaging and Product Design
The FIT KIT comes in a simple box, well, two boxes actually. There’s an outer sleeve and a good looking black case box that holds all the components. The outer sleeve slides off easily, but opening the inner box is a bit frustrating because the lid is so tight.
I do like the ergonomics and clean styling of the box interior. The battery and the two pods are secured in foam compartments, while the charging cable, e-liquid injection bottle and user manual are on the level below.
SMOK went to the trouble of adding extra space next to the battery and pods so you can easily remove (and replace) them. There’s even a ribbon pull so you don’t struggle getting to the bottom of the box.
Colors and Pen Design
The SMOK FIT vape pen comes in three colors – Blue, Red and Gun Metal. There’s a brushed aluminum alloy finish that isn’t particularly durable, so expect to get some scratches around the edges if you carry it around with other items.
I found the flat, angular battery design to be very ergonomic. There are no activation buttons on this simple “auto draw” device. Just charge it, fill the pod and vape.
Weighing only 20 grams, the FIT fits easily into your pocket or purse without showing any bulge.
The trapezoid shaped mouthpiece isn’t quite as comfortable the JUUL’s (which is flat), but that’s just my preference. You do get a nice mouth-to-lung draw and excellent vapor.
Battery Features and Charging
Charging the FIT is easy. Just plug the USB charging cable into a USB port and plug the other end to the bottom of the FIT’s battery.
It only takes about 25 minutes to charge. The LED light on the battery turns red when charging and the light goes off when it’s charged.
I got about 200 puffs before I needed a charge. The FIT has a 250mAh battery so expect to charge it often.
You can get an extra battery for just $6.95 with free shipping if you get it from Vaporfi.
Battery Safety Features
The FIT has 8 seconds protection. That means if you’re vaping longer than 8 seconds the white LED light will flash 5 times when and the battery will automatically shut down the output.
There’s also a short circuit protection. If a load short circuit is detected, the white LED light will flash 4 times and the battery will automatically shut down the output.
When your battery level goes lower than 3.3V, the LED light will flash 15 times and the battery will automatically shut down the output. You’ll need to recharge it immediately. Never allow your battery to get fully drained.
Filling the FIT's Pod System
The FIT comes with two empty flavor Pods. Each Pod holds 2ml of e-Juice.
Unlike closed pod vapes, you can use any type of juice including 50/50 blends, High VG, 100% VG and those with Nicotine Salts.
I was able to refill my pod about 7 times before I needed to use a fresh pod. You should get..
- Puffs per Full Charge: 200 – 250 Puffs
- Puffs per Cartridge (Each Pod): 400 – 500 Puffs
You can fill the pod while it’s attached to the battery, but I recommend taking it out to avoid spilling any juice onto the battery.
All open pod system vapes will have a small stopper that covers the fill hole so your juice doesn’t leak. The FIT’s stopper lays flat when it’s closed, and it has a tab which secures it to the Pod.
Similar systems (like the RUBI) have raised stoppers that you remove entirely. If you lose it, you have to buy a whole new pod. You won’t have to worry about that with the FIT. That said, you’ll need fingernails to open the flat stopper.
Filling the pod is pretty easy if you use the injection bottle that comes with the kit.
Unless your e-liquid is from a company that uses needle-nose bottles, this little accessory is a must-have in order to fill the pod.
I wish SMOK offered the injection bottle as an accessory. I’d like one for each e-juice flavor I use. Right now I find myself rinsing out the bottle after each use. It can be a nuisance, but after trying to fill the pod with a regular dropper, (which was painfully slow and very messy) I’m resigned to rinsing it.
How Long Do the SMOK FIT Pods Last?
I used a 50/50 PG blend in the first pod and got about 7 refills. In the second pod I used an organic e-liquid which was 100% VG. Although I much prefer my 100%VG organic KINDJuice, the pod only lasted for 6 refills.
Wrapping Up the SMOK FIT Review
Not everyone who’s ready to start vaping wants a complicated vaporizer. Most people are looking for an easy way to quit smoking. They want a small, simple vape pen that doesn’t have any activation buttons or special settings. They also want to get a satisfying nicotine level no cig-alike can offer.
If you want all of the above, and you want to be able to add your own juice, the SMOK FIT Vape Pod is a decent, economical choice with a nice, ergonomic design. It has been known to have some performance issues, as do some of the cheaper SMOK products, but if you buy from a reputable source you’ll get a great little vape pen.
- Easy to Use
- Draw activated firing
- Lightweight and Portable
- Comes with 2 Refillable Flavor Pods
- Needs to be charged often
- SMOK’s cheaper products may have a shorter life
- E-Liquid stopper is a bit hard to open
All in all, the SMOK FIT is a good value for the money. I recommend purchasing it from Vaporfi – not just because they asked me to give an honest review this product. It’s because if you have a problem with your SMOK FIT, or you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can give them a call and they'll handle it. You have a 30 day guarantee and a 90 day manufacturing warranty so refunds or replacements are never a problem.
If you want to try other open pod vape pens, there are better made, (and more expensive) alternatives such as the Envii Fitt.
